Verity Pattern Coming Soon

I know it’s been pretty quiet around these parts recently, but I hope you’ll forgive me when I tell you why. I have some exciting news! Next week, I plan to offer a digital pattern of my own design. Verity will be the first pattern from Moxie Patterns.

envelopefrontVerityfinalThis is one of the secret projects–referenced in my beginning of the year goals post–that I’ve been working on this year. This summer I’ve made several variations of my favorite self-drafted design, some of which I have yet to share. You’ve seen so many variations of this pattern (see this post for other variations that I’ve made over the years) because I’ve been testing and tweaking it. I’m finishing up a combination dress-shirt pattern, with several different neckline and sleeve options. I tried to hold out until the pattern was completed to make this announcement, but I just can’t hold it in anymore. I was hoping to have it ready to release on my birthday (this past Thursday), but I didn’t quite finish in time. I plan to release the digital pattern in PDF and copy shop versions within the next week or two.

envelopebackVerityfinalThe first release of the pattern will include sizes XXS-L. However, I am working on adding more sizes (XL-8X), which will be available very soon after. Moxie patterns are graded from two sample sizes (S and 4X) for a better fit, which is why I’m still working on XL-8X. In the future, I plan to make the full size range available at first release.

I have several other patterns in the works, as well as plans for paper patterns cut to measurements by next year. Since I know some of you will be wondering, if you are interested in pattern testing for future patterns, you can send an email to me at I also started a Facebook page for announcements about Moxie Patterns until I can get a Website up and running.

      Thank you! I think that variations make a pattern much more fun and value for the money.

    Dude! That is so awesome! And such a cute pattern to start out with too!! I’d volunteer to test, but I’m suspecting I’d skew the results a bit. πŸ˜‰ Anyway, congrats on the new releases!

    Yesss!!!!!! Congrats!!!!! I am so excited to see you drafting and selling patterns! I have to get this pattern when it’s released, I love this. Really smart move to produce an array of sizes, there is a plus sized market that is dying to have nice patterns like this in sizes over xl. And huge props to you for clearly marking what sort of stretch the knit fabric needs. So many patterns simply say ‘knits with stretch’– there’s a massive difference between a knit with 10% stretch and one with 70% stretch. I will be signing up for your emails πŸ™‚ Can’t wait to see even more of your patterns be released.

      Thanks! True, there aren’t as many options for plus-sized patterns out there. I can see why many companies dont do it because it is a bit of a challenge and a lot more work to produce a larger range of sizes. That is also so true that patterns, generally, aren’t very specific about the types of knits that should be used. I’m so excited and I’m trying not to get ahead of myself and to pace myself. πŸ™‚

    I was missing you around and wondering what was up, so I’m really glad to see that it was something fun and exciting that kept you busy! I particularly love the split cowl! Not sure it would work on me, but I think I’ll probably have to find out…
    I’m hoping that your exercise top will be among the next patterns you release! (;
    Yay for more indie patterns!

    Congratulations! I love that you are including a wide ranges of sizes, and that the plus sizes are graded separately. Such a cute design!

      September 16, 2013 at 1:50 pm

      Thanks! I feel like it’s so unfortunate that there aren’t a wider range of sizes from some pattern companies, although I do understand that it is a lot more work. The larger sizes need to be graded separately in order to maintain style sense and the proper shape of the pattern pieces. I’ve studied some patterns that offer a wide range of sizes and they are often graded from one sample size and the larger pattern pieces end up a totally different shape. Obviously this causes a plethora of fit problems.

    So exciting! I hope you consider making a pattern for the exercise top you sewed for yourself a while ago. Although I really like this pattern as well. Now I just need to make my current projects (I need to make certain amount before I can buy new stuff…). But I will definitely get this at some point! And I’m really excited about you making patterns, because I really love your style πŸ™‚
