Vintage Floral Sleeveless Bruyère Shirt

IMG_5207This is one of my favorite pieces of clothing from the last couple years. I know that may not be evident from my face in some of these photos, but I really do like this garment. I just took way too many photos of different garments in one day, and I was 100% over it.

I used the Deer & Doe Bruyère pattern. I omitted the sleeves, changed the armholes slightly and added bias binding.

When the pattern first came out, I was unsure about the shape. To be honest, it draws a lot of attention to my hips. However, I liked the design too much to pass it up. Besides, the older I get, the more accepting and appreciative of my body I am, so I’m not really self-conscious about it.

The fabric is a vintage floral cotton that I was saving in my stash for years. I saved it for four and a half years, to be exact. I found the fabric on this thrift haul. I still can’t believe I finally allowed myself to use it. Looking back at that thrift haul makes me really miss the thrift stores in Maryland. That’s probably the one and only thing I miss about living there. 😛 Continue reading

Pleated Raglan Sleeve Top & Thrifted Plaid Blazer

IMG_9854This post has been sitting as a draft for over two years. So, let me just dust the cobwebs away here…Ahem.

I took these photos in our house here in TN, just before we moved in. So there may be some literal cobwebs in these photos. 😂

So, let’s talk about the shirt. This was made from a self-drafted pattern. As a reference point, I used a ready-to-wear shirt that had been a favorite, well-loved shirt for years.

I knew I wanted a shirt with a darted raglan sleeve, so I drafted a raglan top from my basic shirt pattern and played around with the sleeve until I arrived at the look I was going for. Continue reading

Happy Independence Day

IMG_5179Hello, friends! It has been quite a long while since I have been active on this poor neglected blog, but I have still been sewing (as if that is a surprise). I finally photographed a bunch of makes to share with you over the next couple of weeks.

I won’t bore you with details of my absence, other than to say that I was low on time and energy due to my job and some health struggles. The good new is, I have been taking steps to improve my health and my body is steadily healing. I am feeling more motivated than ever to share and interact with the lovely online sewing community. I have missed blogging and keeping up with everyone, and I have some exciting things on the horizon.

Anyway, since it’s Independence Day here in the US, it’s the perfect day to share an outfit with red, white and blue in it.

White Lace Shirt & Orange Corduroy Skirt

IMG_9717Many months after the first teaser, I finally have some pictures and a post to share with you about my white lace shirt.

I often wear this shirt with my orange corduroy skirt that I finished around the same time, so I decided to make this post a doubleheader. Continue reading

Pink Lemonade Shirt

IMG_7523Wow, I am so behind on posting about completed clothing. In the interest of catching up, I’m going to keep this post short.

Today, I’m showing you a yoked sweetheart top that I made using the same pattern I used last fall to make the sweetheart top with the lace yoke. Continue reading

Strawberry Sherbet Exercise Top

instagramday31I finally made some cute active wear for myself. It’s been a long time coming, as I’ve grown more and more frustrated with RTW clothing of all kinds. I used to think that it wasn’t worth my time to make items that I would just use to exercise in and get dirty. But you know what? I’ve realized that it’s even more important to be comfortable when exercising.

This exercise top with a built-in bra is the first of the active wear items I made. I actually finished it a couple of weeks ago.

My biggest complaint is having to wear a sports bra even when an exercise top has a built in bra. That’s three layers of material, and I usually still have significant bouncing action. Most tops don’t give the level of compression that I need. This top has a built-in bra and it does a pretty good job. Continue reading

Purple Chevron Renfrew

IMG_6888For my first day of Me-Made-May yesterday, I wore another recently completed Renfrew.

It was a Sewaholic pattern day, apparently, because I paired my Renfrew with my Thurlow trousers…

I’ve had this vintage, light purple knit in my stash for a long time. I think I acquired it at a yard sale a couple years ago. It has a cute, raised Chevron pattern.

I cut the same size as my first Renfrew (4 at the bust and hips, curving to a 0 at the waist). However, the fit is much more snug than the first top because this knit has a lot less stretch than I realized. Continue reading

Black & White Polka Dot Renfrew

IMG_6736In preparation for Me Made May, I’ve been hurriedly making more casual tops to wear.

I know I’m behind the curve on this one, and the sewing blogosphere has been aflood with these for some time, but here’s my first Renfrew.

I opted to leave off the sleeve and hem bands and used my double needle for the hems. Continue reading

Floral Pintuck Yoke Knit Shirt

IMG_6467I’ve been working on getting more me-made casual tops into my wardrobe in preparation for Me-Made-May. So, I finished this fun and comfy top this weekend.

I’m happy to report that I’m really making progress on my UFO pile lately. This is another item that I cut out last year but left unfinished. I drafted the pattern around the same time as my lace yoke sweetheart and dolman tops. It was as simple as cutting a yoke out of my basic shirt pattern and slashing and separating to create the pintucks. Continue reading
