Three Verity Hacks: Maxi Skirt, Crop Top & Button Tab Cowl

Looking for more ways to get use out of the Verity pattern? Well, I have a few extra ideas for you today.

I have been really into high-waisted skirts and crop tops over the past year, and I particularly like midi and maxi length skirts with crop tops. Why? They make me look tall and long-legged! Something this 5’0″ gal with a long lower torso usually only dreams about. I have to laugh, because conventional fashion advice that I always received told me that as a short woman, I should avoid these skirt lengths. Good thing I don’t care about arbitrary fashion rules anymore. ;P

The first hack is for a turning the Verity skirt into a midi or maxi length.

One crop top features omitted sleevebands and a waistband that is simply hemmed along the bottom.

The second crop top features a cowl with a fun little button tab feature, and the waistband is folded and elasticated. You could also choose to simply fold the waistband and half and omit the elastic. I added it to this top for an extra-fitted waistline. Continue reading

Verity Knit Dress and Shirt Pattern Now Available

IMG_8940(2)The day is finally here! It’s time to introduce the Verity dress and shirt pattern to the world. I guess I was off by about a week for the estimated release, but better late than never.

Everything had to be just right. So, I had to add more details, double and triple (and quadruple ;)) check measurements and instructions, and work out a few more kinks than I originally anticipated.

The pattern and instructions come in PDF form. You will receive a tiled version (Letter &A4 format) and copy shop version of the pattern (36×80 for large format printers).

The instruction document provides cutting layouts, detailed assembly instructions with photos, short and sweet versions of instructions for experienced sewers, sewing tips and suggestions, a detailed pattern measurement breakdown and metric conversions of the measurement chart. Continue reading

Talking with Turtles 60s Mod Dress

This project is in honor of my turtle friend that I made last weekend (more details later in the post, if you’re interested)…I used McCalls 2390 (one of the patterns from the free batch I received) from the 1960s, a vintage thrifted double-knit and buttons from G Street Fabrics…The total cost for the dress was about $4.

I altered the neckline, added a bit of width to the hips, and shortened the hemline. Continue reading

Floral wrap button back dress

I made this dress a couple of weeks ago, but neglected to share it…The dress was made with a cotton floral that was gifted to me by a friend (Thanks, Jan! :)) I used a pattern from the lot that I picked up for free through Craigslist, Simplicity 8827. So, the dress was essentially cost free, except for the thread. Man, I love it when that happens! Continue reading
