Turquoise Polka Dot Hummingbird

IMG_8051Being the procrastinator that I am when it comes to photographing projects, I have created quite the backlog. Rather than going in chronological order, I’ve decided to skip around and share some of my more recent makes. I made this top about 3 weeks ago.

I’d been saving this knit polka dot material for a Hummingbird top since I bought it at a thrift store a couple of months ago. It came in a $1 bag with mostly 1/2 yard cuts of material. I had a little more than half a yard to work with, but I was determined to make it work. Happily, I was able to just squeeze all of the pattern pieces onto the material. Continue reading

Strawberry Sherbet Exercise Top

instagramday31I finally made some cute active wear for myself. It’s been a long time coming, as I’ve grown more and more frustrated with RTW clothing of all kinds. I used to think that it wasn’t worth my time to make items that I would just use to exercise in and get dirty. But you know what? I’ve realized that it’s even more important to be comfortable when exercising.

This exercise top with a built-in bra is the first of the active wear items I made. I actually finished it a couple of weeks ago.

My biggest complaint is having to wear a sports bra even when an exercise top has a built in bra. That’s three layers of material, and I usually still have significant bouncing action. Most tops don’t give the level of compression that I need. This top has a built-in bra and it does a pretty good job. Continue reading

Black & White Polka Dot Renfrew

IMG_6736In preparation for Me Made May, I’ve been hurriedly making more casual tops to wear.

I know I’m behind the curve on this one, and the sewing blogosphere has been aflood with these for some time, but here’s my first Renfrew.

I opted to leave off the sleeve and hem bands and used my double needle for the hems. Continue reading

Polka dots for spring

I found this vintage polka dot dress at the thrift store for $5. That’s more than I am usually willing to pay, but I tried it on at the store and I envisioned what it could be, so I decided $5 wasn’t so bad…In general, it was a bit too small. It had boning which was poking into me and sticking out in places…The boning also made the dress look a bit to snug at the waist, and the skirt was a bit tighter than what I consider comfortable at the hips. Continue reading

Red Polka Dot Dress

I made this dress a while back, but somehow never got around to sharing it. I made it using a thrifted vintage dress, which I picked up for about $1. Continue reading

The Soda Fountain Dress

This button down dress was crying out for some love at the thrift store. I am drawn to polka dots, and this dress had a fifties vibe to it that I couldn’t resist. It had a tie at the back … Continue reading
