Verity Plus Size Range XL-8X Now Available

verity-xl-8x-announcementThe plus size range of the Verity pattern is now available! I received some wonderful feedback from testers, and I made some improvements that I hope will make this a pattern that people love to use and reuse. I will have a post with pictures from some lovely testers soon.

This pattern can be used to make a dress or a shirt, with sleeves or without, and it has several collar options: split cowl, regular cowl, neckband, and now a Peter Pan collar add-on. The Peter Pan collar add-on is included for free with every purchase of this pattern for a limited time. For more details and photos of the pattern variations, please see this page.

Some notes about the pattern:

– All sizes are graded out from a sample block (size 4X) that was drafted specifically for a plus size figure.

– The pattern is drafted for C-D pattern cup size (3″-4″ difference between high bust and full bust) and a height of 5’6″.

– If you are between sizes, I would suggest going with the smaller size if you prefer a more fitted look.

-If you are shorter than or taller than 5’6″, you may need to shorten or lengthen the pattern pieces accordingly. However, everyone’s body is different, so you might be 5’6″ but have a short torso, for example, or 5’4″ with a long torso. There is a detailed pattern piece measurement chart included in the instructions. This should help you know what adjustments will need to be made for your height, etc. The measurement chart also includes armhole and bicep measurements. I include those measurements for ease of pattern adjustments.

Verity Re-launch & Peter Pan Collar Add-on

ig-pp-collar-announcement-2Hey everyone! I am re-launching my Verity pattern, to include an extended size range (XL-8X), a girl’s size range (1-8), and a new collar option. I am also offering a new A0 sheet format for those outside of the US who would like to print at a copyshop. Both of the new size ranges will be released within the coming weeks, so keep a lookout.

When I first released the pattern, it was somewhat premature, and it ended up being at a somewhat inopportune time in my life. But hey, live and learn, right? Anyway, I am excited to re-launch the pattern and I hope you enjoy it. The dress has been a staple in my wardrobe for many years now.

I will have some versions made by other sewists to share with you soon. If you have made a version of Verity over the past couple of years, I would love to see it. Please send pictures (moxiepatterns at gmail dot com) or a link to your blog, so I can feature you here. Or, if you are on Instagram, tag @moxiepatterns, and use #veritypattern.

So, let’s talk about the new collar option. The Peter Pan collar is my favorite collar option to add to this dress, and it would look great with the shirt, as well. For a limited time, this add-on collar option will be included with every Verity purchase. This offer is also available to anyone who has previously purchased the pattern (just drop me a line, and I’ll send you the collar and instructions).

As I said, I will be sharing some versions of Verity made by others soon, but in the meantime, here are a couple of examples of the dress with the peter pan collar option. Continue reading

Houndstooth Peter Pan Collar Verity

IMG_9672Today, I bring you a dress that has been staple of my winter wardrobe. Well, when I say it has been a staple, I mean it’s the only dress I’ve been willing to wear when I actually think about wearing a dress (which, if I’m being honest, has been maybe three times in the last month). It has been downright frigid for what feels like a year, and all I want to do is wear jeans, a sweater and a huge coat.

I’m sure I say this every year, but I am so ready for spring. I will have a personal party when I have the opportunity to shed those cumbersome winter layers and don a dress without suffering from hypothermia. I’ll finally feel more like myself again, because I am decidedly a dress kind of gal. I think I’ll have an understanding of what a butterfly must feel like when it emerges from a cocoon.

Anyway, moving on!

This is another make that has been finished for many months. It’s finally getting the moment of fame it deserves.

I used the Verity pattern, with some changes. First, the skirt has less flare. Since I only had a small section of the houndstooth fabric, I redrafted the skirt to fit the amount of fabric that I had. Continue reading

White Lace Shirt & Orange Corduroy Skirt

IMG_9717Many months after the first teaser, I finally have some pictures and a post to share with you about my white lace shirt.

I often wear this shirt with my orange corduroy skirt that I finished around the same time, so I decided to make this post a doubleheader. Continue reading

Black & White Peter Pan Collar Dress

IMG_7159I have yet another finished project from my unfinished object pile to share with you. I’m sure you’re getting tired of hearing that, but you know it’s only because you’re jealous of my discipline. 😉 Anyway, this is the dress that I referred to a few days ago in the post about my tie neck dress.

I started this dress during my trip to California at the end of last summer. While there, I went to the thrift store with my sister and found this argyle dress. I brought it home, not knowing what I’d do with it. I really thought the argyle part of the dress was ugly, but I liked the bottom half. So, I ended up cutting the skirt off and using it to make a new dress. Continue reading

A Swirl of Sunshine Dress

IMG_6392This dress has been in my UFO pile since before Thanksgiving. I pulled it out a couple of months ago and finished everything except stitching the buttons on the front. I finally added the buttons last week.

I made the bodice from a shirt that I thrifted several years ago. In the fall of last year I was really into grey and yellow, so I paired the bodice with a grey knit skirt. I lined the bodice with the same grey knit and made a collar. Continue reading
