Verity Re-launch & Peter Pan Collar Add-on

ig-pp-collar-announcement-2Hey everyone! I am re-launching my Verity pattern, to include an extended size range (XL-8X), a girl’s size range (1-8), and a new collar option. I am also offering a new A0 sheet format for those outside of the US who would like to print at a copyshop. Both of the new size ranges will be released within the coming weeks, so keep a lookout.

When I first released the pattern, it was somewhat premature, and it ended up being at a somewhat inopportune time in my life. But hey, live and learn, right? Anyway, I am excited to re-launch the pattern and I hope you enjoy it. The dress has been a staple in my wardrobe for many years now.

I will have some versions made by other sewists to share with you soon. If you have made a version of Verity over the past couple of years, I would love to see it. Please send pictures (moxiepatterns at gmail dot com) or a link to your blog, so I can feature you here. Or, if you are on Instagram, tag @moxiepatterns, and use #veritypattern.

So, let’s talk about the new collar option. The Peter Pan collar is my favorite collar option to add to this dress, and it would look great with the shirt, as well. For a limited time, this add-on collar option will be included with every Verity purchase. This offer is also available to anyone who has previously purchased the pattern (just drop me a line, and I’ll send you the collar and instructions).

As I said, I will be sharing some versions of Verity made by others soon, but in the meantime, here are a couple of examples of the dress with the peter pan collar option. Continue reading

Stripe and Floral Print Mix Dress

img_5169Last fall, I was especially fond of mixing prints together for outfits. So, I dreamed up this dress one day while looking through my fabric stash.

Now that fall weather is finally making an appearance, I am excited to wear this dress more again. The colors are very fall appropriate and it’s easy to put together layered outfits with this color mix.

I made this dress using the Jennifer Lauren Vintage Bronte pattern. I just shortened the shirt into a bodice and added the skirt from my Verity pattern.

Wheat Bushel Shirtdress & Superimposed Portraits

img_5154Moving right along through the unblogged garments…I’ve got another dress to share that I made last year. I made it around my birthday last August, so it fits a bit loose on me now, but not enough to bother me. I always wear belts anyway.

This dress is one of my favorite dresses, especially since it can easily go from season to season. I wore it with tights, cardigans and boots in the fall and winter.

The material was a thrift store find. It’s a rayon blend of some kind. The wheat block print is reminiscent of a fabric from the ’40s. Continue reading

Pleaty Pleaty Please Dress x2

IMG_5345 (3)Today I have two dresses to share with you that I made from a self-drafted pattern last fall.

The grey dress with flowers was the test garment, and the teal dress is the garment I made after I tweaked the pattern some more. The teal dress was meant to be worn to a wedding that we sadly did not end up attending.

I was originally going to buy a dress, but I had the look of this bodice floating around in my head and I couldn’t get it out. I didn’t have a prayer to find something similar, especially when I factored in the particular color I wanted (a teal or dark emerald green color). I’m not sure why I still believe that I’ll ever be able to find anything RTW that I like anymore. I still go out and browse clothing about once a season or two because it’s fun to see the styles of the moment, but I haven’t bought RTW clothing for myself in well over a year (aside from underwear and a few pieces of activewear). Houndstooth Peter Pan Collar Verity

IMG_9672Today, I bring you a dress that has been staple of my winter wardrobe. Well, when I say it has been a staple, I mean it’s the only dress I’ve been willing to wear when I actually think about wearing a dress (which, if I’m being honest, has been maybe three times in the last month). It has been downright frigid for what feels like a year, and all I want to do is wear jeans, a sweater and a huge coat.

I’m sure I say this every year, but I am so ready for spring. I will have a personal party when I have the opportunity to shed those cumbersome winter layers and don a dress without suffering from hypothermia. I’ll finally feel more like myself again, because I am decidedly a dress kind of gal. I think I’ll have an understanding of what a butterfly must feel like when it emerges from a cocoon.

Anyway, moving on!

This is another make that has been finished for many months. It’s finally getting the moment of fame it deserves.

I used the Verity pattern, with some changes. First, the skirt has less flare. Since I only had a small section of the houndstooth fabric, I redrafted the skirt to fit the amount of fabric that I had. Continue reading

Grey Tie-Neck Button-Up Dress

IMG_9291I really NEED more fall clothing, so I’ve been pushing myself to get some clothing done since the weather is a changin’. I’ve really been lacking in the button-up shirt and dress department, and I want so more clothes that are “fall appropriate” in color, etc. Anyway, I decided last week that it was about time that I drafted myself a button-up pattern with several different variations that I could use to make myself pieces for my fall wardrobe.

This dress was actually the first thing that I drafted. My sister actually asked me to make a very similar dress for her, so I figured I may as well draft it in my size first and test everything out. ๐Ÿ˜‰ The dress I’m making for her will have pockets on the bodice and a regular collar. I first planned for this dress to have a regular collar, but I decided pretty last minute to extend the collar into ties. Continue reading

Blue Skies Are Callin’ Dress

IMG_8589This is the sleeveless and cowl-less variation of my Verity dress/shirt pattern. I cut this one out before I made the changes to the pattern that I noted with this version from earlier this summer. That’s why the bodice is still too short. Oh, well. Who cares? I still like it. ๐Ÿ™‚

The dress has a flared skirt, just like the first one. This time, since I was working with a striped fabric, I decided to make a chevron on the front and back seams. I should have let the fabric settle before hemming the dress, but I didn’t think about it. I sure have been throwin’ out a lot of “shoulda, coulda, woulda’s” lately.

I made the chevron point down instead of up. Why? I just like to be contrary sometimes. ๐Ÿ˜› Continue reading

Reconstructed plaid dress

IMG_7629Some of you may remember this dress from the second-to-last day of Me-Made-May. This is actually the first plaid dress that I can remember owning. Terrible, I know. I’ve had it in my to-be-reconstructed pile for a couple of years now, but I finally got around to reconstructing it. Continue reading

A Summery Dress & Some Spiky Thistle

IMG_7446When I saw this thistle on the side of the road, I thought it would make the perfect backdrop for a couple pictures. Unfortunately, a couple of pictures is all I got in because there was a sudden influx of passersby.

I tried to take one of those giant thistle flowers home with me, but there were spikes on everything, including the leaves. Yikes! I don’t think I’d ever been close enough to thistle to realize how “thistle-y” it is. Ha! My penchant for doting on weeds is becoming well-documented. I’m once again guilty of being a weed-lover, because I think thistle is really cool looking. If I could’ve taken one of the stalks home with me without getting bloody, I would’ve.

Anyway, let’s talk about the new dress…I have made this design several times over the past three years, or so (the ones below are some of the custom orders I did through my Etsy shop). It usually popped up in the form of a top, with a cowl or a split cowl. Continue reading
