Me-Made-May ’13 Week 4

Are we there yet?! I’m so ready to be done taking pictures of myself everyday. It’s becoming a bit of an annoyance. We’re almost there though. Only a few days left in May. Good thing too, I’ve worn almost every single me-made I have.

5/19 – Sunday, with cherries on top

Dress and Belt: Sew for Victory ’40s dress

Shoes: Modesta

For those who have wondered about the background in some of the photos. That whole dirt area isn’t our driveway, it’s mostly the backyard. We just haven’t planted grass yet. I know I’ve neglected to post an update on all the house and yard work we’ve done. I will do so soon, I hope.

5/20 -Polka dots on a forklift

IMG_20130520_161158

To change it up, I took a photo on the forklift at hubby’s shop. I really do have to drive it occasionally. It can be a lot of fun! 😀

Dress: reconstructed polka dot dress

Belt: thrifted

I need to get a few spring cardigans in different colors. I’m sure you’re getting tired of this one. I know I am

Shoes: black Rainbow sandals

5/21- Aww, do I have to?

IMG_20130521_190919

As you can see from my face in this picture, I was a bit annoyed about having to take a picture.

Skirt: reconstructed striped skirt

Shirt: self-drafted top, never blogged

Shoes: Not sure because the brand is worn off (the shoes are probably at least six years old)

5/22 – Oops, almost forgot…

IMG_20130522_185318

Sorry for the terrible light in this photo. I was out at the shop, it was the end of the day, and I realized that I still needed a picture.

Dress: Better Late Than Never Dress

Belt: thrifted

Shoes: same aqua wedges that I’ve worn about ten times this month. Ha!

5/23 – Attack of the Cicadas

IMG_7376

We are currently enduring what can only be called a cicada plague here. There are way more of them than usual, and they are flying clumsily and scaring me, everywhere I go. My face in the picture above is expressing a combination of amusement and concern about the cicadas flying nearby.
Dress: Mini Mushrooms Make Me Merry dress

Cardigan: thrifted

Shoes: thrifted

5/24 – Test driving date

IMG_20130524_202138

We went car shopping and test driving on Saturday. No, that isn’t my new car, but I can dream! 🙂

Skirt: to-be-blogged skirt, made using Megan Nielsen’s Kelly pattern

Cardigan: thrifted

Shoes: Modesta

5/25- Errand day

IMG_20130525_172216

Yesterday, we went to Costco and did our weekly home improvement store trip. It was a very exciting trip this time. Yay, insulation! Haha!

Dress: reconstructed crochet neckline dress

Belt: thrifted

Cardigan:

Shoes: brown Rainbow sandals

The Californian in me has been coming out, as I slipped on my flip-flops several times this week. I often wear other shoes when I go out and about, but otherwise, I’m frequently in flip-flops during the warmer months.

IMG_20130525_172911Just to give you a new face to look at, here’s sweet little Newton. He says, “Hi, everyone!” Oh yeah, and as you can see in the last photos, I just received my new glasses. Now, I have a pair to wear with blues, greens, and blacks and a pair to wear with all the other colors. I’ve never had two pairs of glasses at once. I’ve usually either lost or broken my old ones by now. 😛

Really cute dresses, I am feeling pretty burnt out on the pictures too!!

  2. Ginny says:

I know how you feel with the photo-taking. I crashed and burned on that front about half way through the month. It’s too much effort setting the camera up most days! So well done for persevering 🙂

    • Becca says:

It was difficult to keep it up and try to change up the photo locations. I asked my husband to take pictures of me with my phone a few days (I’m sure he’s happy this month is over, too), but most days I just set up the tripod because I didn’t want to be a bother. 😉

  3. Kathryn says:

I totally know what you mean with the photo taking! I’ve forgotten twice last week and am looking forward to not taking a photo on Saturday! I love all your dresses here and it’s nice you’ve mixed the locations up!

    • Becca says:

It was pretty rough near the end. I woke up this morning and was overjoyed at the thought that I didn’t have to take an outfit picture for the day. Ha!

  4. Korey says:

Two pairs of glass, you are really living the dream! I have always wanted to get a pair of prescription sunglasses because my eyes are so light sensitive or have a back up pair of regular glasses but my prescription gets stronger every time I go to the eye doctor so I have never had two pairs with the same prescription.

Very charming pictures by the way. I hate getting my picture taken so I appreciate your dedication.

    • Becca says:

I’m so excited to have two pairs! My prescription hasn’t changed much over the years. So, I’ve been able to order my glasses online the past few times.

Thanks! It definitely got annoying taking pictures every single day, but it was worth it to have a virtual record of most of my wardrobe.

      • How awesome, that I come back from our week vacation with my own new pairs of glasses, and find that you have some too!

We’d been looking forward to this trip specifically to visit my favorite glasses store- 20/20 Eyeglass Superstore. Originally there was only one location in Florida- Winter Park, but now they have one in Melbourne and the one we went to- in Orange City!!

We went to them first when the DJ Taco Bob would do commercials for them. The deal was an eye exam and two pairs of glasses- one with sunglass tint, for $101.00. The radio station was 101.1 WJRR. Now, the deal is simply $105, but they honored it without a fuss, and as always, I LOVE going there! Oh, and they cut their own lenses, so you can usually walk out with your new glasses in an hour.
We had an 11:30am appointment for my roommate and I. I can’t remember when we left to go to lunch, but we were promised glasses at 5pm. At 5pm Jon got his phone call, but they needed an extra 20 minutes to finish baking tint onto my sunglasses.

I very nearly ended up with children’s frames, but we finally found ones we liked- this is the first visit where our nurse lady had a pocketful for me to choose from after we finished browsing. Then another nurse lady produced the perfect sunglasses. Ordinarily I use the same frames for both (saved my behind one year when I snapped the frames in half- I just swapped lenses!) but these new ones are small and I was concerned they’d be useless against the sun.

Ah! This is very long. Anyway, congratulations on new glasses! Yay for upgraded sight!

  5. Such cute dresses! I only vowed to wear at least two a week and I too am getting tired of taking my picture. I couldn’t imagine one everyday although I hope to be able to next year.

    • Becca says:

Thanks! Yeah, it was a lot harder than I thought it’d be. Great job keeping up with your MMM pledge, and I’m sure you’ll have many more beautiful handmade items in your wardrobe next year.
