Lacy Tie-Neck Dress

Yet another project from the Unfinished Object Pile completed. I love checking things off that list!

If you follow me on Instagram, then you caught a glimpse of this dress the other day. I’ve been posting my me-made outfits on there each day, and I wore this dress last Sunday.

I actually finished this dress several weeks ago. It had been in and out of my UFO pile since last year.

I made the pattern for the bodice of this dress when I was in California last summer. The pattern was actually used for another dress first (I’ll post about that in a couple of days). I found the lacy knit fabric at Michael Levine Loft during the same visit to California, but I didn’t cut the material out for this dress until November of last year.

At first it had a collar that matched the polka dot placket, but that didn’t work out and I didn’t have enough fabric to fix it.

So I moved on to plan B and removed the collar and bias strip. I added a channel around the neckline for a tie to go through.

I want to get a ribbon or make ties that match the burgundy buttons. I had a matching ribbon that I planned to tie around the waist, but it mysteriously disappeared, or maybe I imagined it.  Who knows?

While we’re working on our front and back yard, I’ve got all of my plants in pots on the deck and under the deck.

IMG_7158Those daisy-like flowers are actually considered a weed here, but I don’t care! They bring me so much joy when I look at them. They popped up in my back yard last year and I potted them. Eventually, I’m going to put them with some other wildflowers I planted in our side yard.

If you’re in the Northern Hemisphere, has spring arrived where you are? Do you have a favorite spring flower?

*Reminder: I’m giving away a couple dresses and a few patterns. Please see this post for details.*

What a pretty dress! I love the colour on you and the placket and buttons give a lovely accent. 🙂
After longest winter in recent history, we’re definitely enjoying spring, and we’ve even had almost summery temperatures on a few days! My favorite flower at the moment is lilac and chestnut blossoms. They smell so good, especially after a spring shower. 🙂

Thank you! I wanted to mix it up a bit with the polka dot placket. I’m so glad that you’re finally getting to enjoy spring. I love lilac! I discovered this year that I have some in my yard. It just finished blooming. It smelled divine! I don’t think I’ve ever had the pleasure of seeing or smelling chestnut blossoms. Maybe, one day. 🙂

Congratulations on turning another UFO into a lovely and contributing member of your wardrobe–what a great accomplishment. I’m amused at your weed in a pot, but you’re right, it does look very pretty!

Thanks! The weed in a pot is a bit funny, isn’t it? But I love it, no matter what anyone says.

What a unique idea, I love the use of a channel and tie around the neck and it goes so well with the style of fabric you have used! Overall a great dress xXX

Thanks! When I think about it now, I agree that the fabric is pretty suited to that neckline style.

Really lovely. I’ve recently made a dress in a very similar colour – we must be trend setters! Spring has just sprung in England, we had glorious sunshine last weekend but it’s reverted back to type now – rain! Love your daisies.

Thank you! Haha! Yeah, we must be! 🙂 Yay, for spring! I hope you get your share of sunshine.

Good save! I think I like the channeling better than I would have liked the peter pan collar (though obviously it would have been cute too!) Someday I’ll try to be good and finish my UFOs.

My favorite spring flower is lilacs, but my hubby says they “stink” so he won’t let me get one for right next to the front door. 🙁 And, I’m pretty sure the only difference between a weed and a flower is someone’s love for it!

Thank you! You know, I think I like the channeling better too.

I love lilacs, too! Mine just finished blooming. They stink in a good way. Ha! I just wanted to sit by mine all day while it was in bloom. There were so many butterflies on it all the time. So fun!

Agreed, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, right? 🙂

[…] I have yet another finished project from my unfinished object pile to share with you. I’m sure you’re getting tired of hearing that, but you know it’s only because you’re jealous of my discipline. Anyway, this is the dress that I referred to a few days ago in the post about my tie neck dress. […]

Thanks! It is very easy-to-wear, and my favorite color. The thrill that comes from crossing things off the list never gets old. 🙂
