Christmas dress & a new look for winter
I know I said I wouldn’t have a sewing post up again until January but I couldn’t resist sharing my Christmas dress that I finished at the last minute before we left.
I’ve had the material for several years, and I think I bought it at the thrift store in Moscow, ID. It’s a light pink and white with snowflakes and reindeer. It’s perfect for winter. It’s Christmas-y but not so much so that I can’t wear it at other times in the winter. Continue reading

A minor sewing injury and several new shirts
I’ve been busy sewing up a lot of tops, lately. I made doubles of a couple of them, and some of them are listed in my Etsy shop. I also have tutorials in the works for several of these designs…

Self-Drafted Sweater Shirt and Skirt
When I was in California, I didn’t have any of my pattern drafting tools with me but I decided to try to draft a few patterns anyway.
When I found the sweater material above in my $2 bag from Loft, I wanted to make a shirt to go with the skirt I bought while at the thrift store with my sister. . . . Continue reading

Home Away from Home Dress
I made this dress while I was in California for a few weeks. We stayed at my parents’ house, and my mom has a sewing machine. It’s a Brother, which means that I fought with it the entire time. But at least I was able to produce a wearable garment using it…
I brought a couple sewing patterns with me. I used vintage Vogue 1046, pictured below, to make this dress. Continue reading

Turquoise Leopake Tie-Back Dress
I finished this reconstruction project more than a month ago, but I’d still like to show it to you….
I’ve tried to imagine what this print is actually supposed to be, but it boggles my mind.
It does seem like some sort of abstract mystery animal print. Is it supposed to be a drug-induced vision of a leopard? Or maybe a psychedelic snake? Or perhaps some sort of prehistoric bug? Maybe I’m completely off-base here, and its supposed to be interpreted as cracked dirt, or sections of cooled rock floating in molten lava….
Below are the steps in the reconstruction process. You can skip to the end if you’re only interested in the final product…. Continue reading

Daydreamer Dress Raffle for St. Jude
I mentioned a few months back that I was planning to do the Warrior Dash in May. I officially signed up for the race a couple of weeks ago, and I’m so excited that my husband will be doing it with me, along with my sister-in-law and her husband.
I also signed up to be a St. Jude Warrior. So, in an effort to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, I have planned a couple of raffles for this month…You are, of course, welcome to donate any amount to St. Jude without entering the raffle. Please follow this link if you would like to help.
The first raffle is for this fun and flirty sundress.
(Entry details at the bottom of the post) Continue reading

“Better late than never” dress
This was my Easter dress this year. It was bright and perfect for such a celebratory day…I started making this dress a little over a year ago, and put it aside for one reason or another. In my effort to make progress on my UFO pile, I pulled it out about a month ago. Continue reading

Polka dots for spring
I found this vintage polka dot dress at the thrift store for $5. That’s more than I am usually willing to pay, but I tried it on at the store and I envisioned what it could be, so I decided $5 wasn’t so bad…In general, it was a bit too small. It had boning which was poking into me and sticking out in places…The boning also made the dress look a bit to snug at the waist, and the skirt was a bit tighter than what I consider comfortable at the hips. Continue reading

Deep blue knit dress
The beginning of this year has been filled with projects for other people, and I’ve got a few more custom items to complete before I can make an outfit for myself. I love to make things for other people, so … Continue reading
