Reconstructed plaid dress
Some of you may remember this dress from the second-to-last day of Me-Made-May. This is actually the first plaid dress that I can remember owning. Terrible, I know. I’ve had it in my to-be-reconstructed pile for a couple of years now, but I finally got around to reconstructing it. Continue reading

Dress for The Great Gatsby Sewing Challenge
My dress for the Great Gatsby Sewing Challenge is complete. Here it is!
This dress is Great Gatsby inspired, and as I said in my planning post, this project is also in honor of my great grandmother, Frances Coles. Continue reading

A Summery Dress & Some Spiky Thistle
When I saw this thistle on the side of the road, I thought it would make the perfect backdrop for a couple pictures. Unfortunately, a couple of pictures is all I got in because there was a sudden influx of passersby.
I tried to take one of those giant thistle flowers home with me, but there were spikes on everything, including the leaves. Yikes! I don’t think I’d ever been close enough to thistle to realize how “thistle-y” it is. Ha! My penchant for doting on weeds is becoming well-documented. I’m once again guilty of being a weed-lover, because I think thistle is really cool looking. If I could’ve taken one of the stalks home with me without getting bloody, I would’ve.
Anyway, let’s talk about the new dress…I have made this design several times over the past three years, or so (the ones below are some of the custom orders I did through my Etsy shop). It usually popped up in the form of a top, with a cowl or a split cowl. Continue reading

In Progress – Great Gatsby Challenge Dress
Last month I mentioned that I wanted to make something inspired by my great-grandmother Coles for the Great Gatsby ’20s sewing challenge.
I meant to post my plan a couple weeks ago, but I was busy sewing up a storm. Boy, am I glad that I have until the end of this month for this challenge. I’m almost finished sewing the dress, but I plan to add beading, too. :O Continue reading

Black & White Peter Pan Collar Dress
I have yet another finished project from my unfinished object pile to share with you. I’m sure you’re getting tired of hearing that, but you know it’s only because you’re jealous of my discipline.
Anyway, this is the dress that I referred to a few days ago in the post about my tie neck dress.
I started this dress during my trip to California at the end of last summer. While there, I went to the thrift store with my sister and found this argyle dress. I brought it home, not knowing what I’d do with it. I really thought the argyle part of the dress was ugly, but I liked the bottom half. So, I ended up cutting the skirt off and using it to make a new dress. Continue reading

Lacy Tie-Neck Dress
Yet another project from the Unfinished Object Pile completed. I love checking things off that list!
If you follow me on Instagram, then you caught a glimpse of this dress the other day. I’ve been posting my me-made outfits each day, and I wore this dress last Sunday.
I actually finished this dress several weeks ago. It has been in and out of my UFO pile since last year.
I made the pattern for the bodice of this dress when I was in California last summer. The pattern was actually used for another dress first (I’ll post about that in a couple days). I found the lacy knit fabric at Michael Levine Loft during the same visit to California, but I didn’t cut the material out for this dress until November of last year. Continue reading

Spring Cleaning Giveaway
To start off my first Me-Made-May I’ve got a giveaway for ya’, and it’s a big un’! This giveaway has something for sewers and non-sewers alike.
First, I have some patterns to give away. I will mail these to fellow sewers anywhere around the world…
As I was going through my wardrobe and making my plans for Me-Made-May, I realized that there are several items that I made over the past few years and rarely wore or only wore once or twice. These dresses deserve to be worn and loved. I can’t bear to give them to a thrift shop, so I thought I’d see if anyone out there might be interested in them… Continue reading

Mad Men Sewing Challenge Dress Complete…Barely
I finished my Mad Men Dress, just in time. I was so glad to have an extension.
I aimed to have this dress done on Friday (the original deadline), but I’ve been distracted since Thursday. We’re redoing our whole yard. We’ve been pulling out concrete, filling the pool in, clearing, pruning, tilling, etc. I’ve had to dig up and temporarily pot a lot of plants to replant when we’re finished. Needless to say, I’m amazed that I managed to just squeeze this dress in by the extended deadline…
I used Butterick 2952 as a base pattern, and made a lot of alterations and additions. Continue reading

More Unselfish Sewing
I have more unselfish sewing to share with you. I made a dress for my momma, using my self-drafted cowl top pattern. I’m getting pretty good at pattern grading, but it still took me a while to get the fit of the pattern right. It was well worth it though.
I took my “first draft” of the dress with me to California in February, had my mom try it on, and took notes on alterations I needed to make. I had to take most of the dress apart and resew it. I finally finished the alterations a couple of weeks ago and sent the dress to her with the dress I made for my youngest sister. Continue reading
