Thurlow muslins and reverse-engineered trousers
I am joining in on Lauren’s Thurlow Sew-along at the end of this month. So, I’ve been choosing my fabrics and working on my muslins in preparation. . . .
The muslin process has been a trial with this pattern. I made two muslins for the Thurlow trousers and still couldn’t get a proper fit. . . .
I’ve talked about making my own trouser pattern for a couple years now, and finally forged ahead with the idea. The pattern is based on a favorite pair that I deconstructed. Continue reading

Dark brown dress with crocheted yoke
I thrifted this dress many months ago and finally got around to altering it. . . .
I removed the fabric that was behind the crochet section of the bodice. Since the crochet neckline was barely noticeable, I thought that removing the lining would make it show up better.
I removed the pockets (For some reason in this material, they really added bulk at the hips) and took in both sides, adding shaping at the waistline. Continue reading

Self-Drafted Sweater Shirt and Skirt
When I was in California, I didn’t have any of my pattern drafting tools with me but I decided to try to draft a few patterns anyway.
When I found the sweater material above in my $2 bag from Loft, I wanted to make a shirt to go with the skirt I bought while at the thrift store with my sister. . . . Continue reading

Learning to Knit, Again
I picked up knitting again, and I love it!
We had a long drive from the west coast back to the east coast. So, I spent time in the car practicing different types of stitches, increasing, decreasing, making buttonholes, casting on and binding off. Once I started to experiment with the needles and yarn, I was amazed at how much I recalled from the few times I have asked my mom to re-teach me over the years. Continue reading

Linen n’ Lace Top & the Great Maxi Mistake
This is the last of the summer sewing catch-up posts….
When my grandparents came to visit, they brought some fabrics and vintage garments from my grandma’s sister, Anne (Thanks Auntie Anne!). The material below was cut out for a loose blouse, with no pattern instructions. I thought the lightweight material would be ideal for a summer tank, and I’d use the sleeves and the bit of leftover material for another top, at some point.

Home Away from Home Dress
I made this dress while I was in California for a few weeks. We stayed at my parents’ house, and my mom has a sewing machine. It’s a Brother, which means that I fought with it the entire time. But at least I was able to produce a wearable garment using it…
I brought a couple sewing patterns with me. I used vintage Vogue 1046, pictured below, to make this dress. Continue reading

Muffins, Muffins, Muffins
I had seen several recipes on Pinterest that were similar to this one, but they all used bananas. I don’t like banana, so I wanted to try different fruits in my muffins. Hence, the apples you see in the ingredients list…
Coat the muffin tin with non-stick spray or light butter and add your veggies and some green onions. I like to put chopped bell peppers in my egg muffins. It adds flavor and makes the muffins nice and colorful. Next time I think I’ll also add some zucchini, broccoli or asparagus. You can also add bacon or turkey sausage crumbles…
I saw these on Pinterest and thought they looked yummy. So I gave them a try. I forgot to take pictures, but I followed this recipe. Below is a picture of her chocolate cupcake muffins. Mine didn’t actually look like this…at all. But they were still yummy. Continue reading
