I started this dress during my trip to California at the end of last summer. While there, I went to the thrift store with my sister and found this argyle dress. I brought it home, not knowing what I'd do with it. I really thought the argyle part of the dress was ugly, but I liked the bottom half. So, I ended up cutting the skirt off and using it to make a new dress. I love checking things off that list! If you follow me on Instagram, then you caught a glimpse of this dress the other day. I've been posting my me-made outfits each day, and I wore this dress last Sunday. I actually finished this dress several weeks ago. It has been in and out of my UFO pile since last year. I made the pattern for the bodice of this dress when I was in California last summer.The pattern was actually used for another dress first (I'll post about that in a couple days). I found the lacy knit fabric at Michael Levine Loft during the same visit to California, but I didn't cut the material out for this dress until November of last year. She's the perfect little herald of spring. I don't think I've ever owned a wrap skirt, and I never thought I needed one. Now I don't know how I lived without one! I'm not sure why, but I've always thought an a-line wrap skirt wouldn't work on me. Please, tell me if I'm wrong, but I think it's actually pretty flattering. The skirt is made from a $1 vintage cotton sheet. I fell in love with the print from afar in the thrift store linen section, and I was ecstatic when I pulled it out to see that the material was in perfect condition: no stains, no smells, and probably very minimal use. When I bought it, I had no idea what I'd use it for, but when I decided to buy Tilly's Miette pattern, this material begged to be made into a wrap skirt. It was a Sewaholic pattern day, apparently, because I paired my Renfrew with my Thurlow trousers... I've had this vintage, light purple knit in my stash for a long time. I think I acquired it at a yard sale a couple years ago. It has a cute, raised Chevron pattern. I cut the same size as my first Renfrew (4 at the bust and hips, curving to a 0 at the waist). However, the fit is much more snug than the first top because this knit has a lot less stretch than I realized.
