Reconstructed 80s Bow Print Dress
It’s been a while since I’ve done a complete reconstruction, but I did one recently.
When I saw the purple bow print material on the dress above, I immediately thought of my youngest sister. She loves purple. Plus, what teenage girl doesn’t love a colorful bow print?
So, I reconstructed the dress into a little summer frock. Here is the dress, pictured on my adorable baby sis’ (she’s seventeen, but she’s still the baby). Continue reading

Mad Men Dress Plan & Liebster Award
Strap in…this post has two subjects, but I hope you’ll stay with me.
Apparently, this is gonna be the year of sewing challenges for me. I learned something from participating in Sew for Victory: sewing challenges/sew-alongs make me more productive. I don’t mean just when it comes to the items made for the challenge. I see an increase in my general sewing productivity when I have a special project to work on. So, over the next few months I’m going to hop onto a few other challenges: Mad Men Dress Challenge, Me Made May, and maybe even the Great Gatsby Sewing Challenge.
Anyway, I’m excited about participating in Julia Bobbin’s Mad Men Dress Challenge this year, and I thought I’d share my plan. Continue reading

Looking Forward to 2013
Can you believe it’s 2013? 2012 went by so fast. I was going to jump on the sewing blogger bandwagon and post a recap of my 2012 projects, but I figured if anyone is interested they can just look through the 2012 archives.
I didn’t post any goals for 2012, but I did in 2011. I looked back at those and was happy to find that I’d worked on most of them over the past two years. Many of the items on that list are ongoing goals that remain on my list for 2013. And since making lists is one of my favorite things to do, I’ve made a short list for 2013. It really helps me to enumerate my goals for the year. Displaying them publicly means that I’ll be more likely to strive for them. Continue reading

Christmas dress & a new look for winter
I know I said I wouldn’t have a sewing post up again until January but I couldn’t resist sharing my Christmas dress that I finished at the last minute before we left.
I’ve had the material for several years, and I think I bought it at the thrift store in Moscow, ID. It’s a light pink and white with snowflakes and reindeer. It’s perfect for winter. It’s Christmas-y but not so much so that I can’t wear it at other times in the winter. Continue reading

Birds in My Pockets
I watched the dirt shift ‘round my toes,
Enjoying this new found repose.
Then grasping a feather to admire,
I looked up to find an otherworldly choir:
A beautiful array of birds on a wire….
So I stitched some birds in my pockets
To be always carried by their song.
I may not have wings to fly apace,
But I can use a quill with grace;
I can sing along….
Like the swimsuit that I posted earlier this week, I finished these shorts on the road…

Back from the depths of a blogging lull
What a busy summer this has been. I’ve enjoyed focusing on life in the real world, but I’ve missed the virtual community.
I may not have been posting updates this summer, but I have still been working on various projects. So, I have a lot of sewing and reconstruction projects to share, along with some recipes, hairstyles, and other fun stuff.
While I would love to write a couple of lengthy recap posts of my summer, I’ll just give a (relatively) quick explanation of my absence. Continue reading
Weekend fun on the water
Saturday, we rode the jet skis and went tubing with Wayne and Laura’s boat. We were out on the water for about six hours. The next day, we realized we didn’t plan well. We were all sunburned and sore, and we had the Warrior Dash to get through (see this post for details about the Warrior Dash)…
We even took Newton out on the skis with us. He has his own little life jacket and a pair of “doggles”, and he rides in front of one of us on the seat. He likes riding fast the best. Fear of the water used to be something that we could never quite shake him of, but now, he loves the water. Continue reading

Raffle Winner and Warrior Dash Recap
Without further ado, let me announce the winner of the raffle. Thank you to everyone who entered the raffle and/or donated money to St. Jude! Your generosity will go a long way toward helping to save lives. There were 21 raffle entries. I assigned numbers based on order of entry. The winner, chosen by random number generator is…
We hit mud right away, and some people next to me were somersaulting into the mud puddles and splashing everyone with mud. My shoes immediately soaked up the mud. They started to pull off every time I took a step in the mud, and we were less than a half mile into the race. At one point, I couldn’t get out of the deepest part of the mud, and a girl was kind enough to pull me up to the more solid part of the trail… Continue reading
Wicked wasps, meet the Wasp Warrior
As you know, I am running in the Warrior Dash this Sunday. In preparation, I have been working on a costume.
Last year I suggested the possibility of making a bee/wasp inspired outfit (You can read the post if you would like to know the back story). So, I decided to channel my worst fear/enemy when creating my costume for the Warrior Dash. My friends, I am a Wasp Warrior! Continue reading
